Soma Manaltheeram Ayurveda Village
A beachfront Ayurveda village on the Malabar coast, south of Kovalam
About the centre
Soma Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village is the Somatheeram group's beachfront sister — opened in 1990 on twelve acres of coconut groves and sweeping beachfront on the Malabar coast, 9 km south of Kovalam. A collection of thatched cottages and heritage Kerala houses (61 rooms) sits above an oyster-shaped pool that seems to merge into the Arabian Sea. NABH-accredited and Ayur Diamond classified, it offers the same classical Ayurveda as its sister properties — twelve doctors, 80-plus therapists, 30 treatment rooms (some open-air under palm trees), a 600-species herb garden and GMP in-house medicines — across rejuvenation, Panchakarma, slimming, stress and clinical programmes. Welcoming guests from 40-plus countries, it's the group's relaxed beach-village face.

The setting
Set on the pristine Malabar coast just south of Kovalam, Soma Manaltheeram spreads twelve acres of coconut groves and thatched cottages down to a sweeping beachfront. A sister of the world's first Ayurveda resort, it carries the same classical treatment into a barefoot, beach-village setting — heritage Kerala houses, an oyster-shaped pool merging into the sea, and treatment pavilions open to the palms — where the sound of the waves is part of the cure.

Why we curated this centre
Our honest read.
Manaltheeram is the Somatheeram group's beach-village sister — the same classical Ayurveda credentials (NABH, Ayur Diamond, twelve doctors, 80-plus therapists, GMP in-house medicines, a 600-species herb garden) in a more relaxed, barefoot beachfront setting. It's been running since 1990 and hosts guests from 40-plus countries, so it's well-grooved for international visitors, with structured programmes, interpreters and 30 treatment rooms (some open-air under the palms). It leans a little more holiday-by-the-sea than clinical-intensive — the oyster-shaped pool, the coconut groves and the beach are a real part of the appeal — but the medicine is the group's genuine classical practice. Best for someone who wants authentic Ayurveda — rejuvenation, Panchakarma or a specific concern — with a calm beach-village atmosphere rather than a formal hospital feel.
