Chowara, Kerala
Dr. Franklin's Panchakarma
A pioneering clinical Panchakarma centre near Kovalam, classical Ayurveda since 1997
About the centre
Dr. Franklin's Panchakarma is a pioneering clinical Ayurveda centre at Chowara, near Kovalam in Kerala, a ten-minute walk from the beach and about 30 minutes from Trivandrum airport. Founded in 1997 on Dr. Franklin's fifty-plus years in Ayurveda and directed today by Dr. Sony Joseph (BAMS, MD), it is a working Panchakarma resort rather than a spa: a team of doctors, around eighty trained therapists and thirty-three treatment rooms across a three-acre property. Care is fully personalised — an arrival consultation and pulse diagnosis set a classical Panchakarma plan with 3 to 3.5 hours of therapy a day, daily doctor visits, herbal medicines and a prakriti-based diet — with particular experience in psoriasis, rheumatic and arthritic complaints and lifestyle diseases. Eighty-one rooms across five categories, a vegetarian restaurant, pool and fitness centre round out the stay.

The setting
One of Kerala's pioneers of Ayurvedic medical tourism, Dr. Franklin's Panchakarma was founded in 1997 on the vision of Dr. Franklin — more than fifty years in Ayurveda — and is run today under the directorship of Dr. Sony Joseph (BAMS, MD). Set on three green acres at Chowara, a ten-minute walk from the beach, it is a working Panchakarma centre rather than a spa: thirty-three treatment rooms, around eighty trained therapists and a team of doctors who build a personalised programme for each guest after pulse diagnosis.

We help you pick the programme and length that fit your goals, not just the package you happened to click on.
We do the legwork, free

A practitioner, if it helps

Why we curated this centre
Our honest read.
Dr. Franklin's is the deep-clinical, serious-Panchakarma end of the spectrum — and one of Kerala's pioneers of Ayurvedic medical tourism. Founded in 1997 on Dr. Franklin's fifty-plus years in Ayurveda and run today by Dr. Sony Joseph (BAMS, MD), it is a working treatment centre rather than a spa: thirty-three treatment rooms, around eighty trained therapists (some with 20-plus years) and a team of doctors who personalise every programme after pulse diagnosis, with 3 to 3.5 hours of hands-on therapy a day. It carries no formal classification yet, but the substance is real — long experience with psoriasis, rheumatic and arthritic complaints and lifestyle diseases, and a full classical Panchakarma scope over a minimum two-week stay. The setting is unpretentious and good-value: three green acres a ten-minute walk from Chowara beach, with English-speaking staff, translators on request and airport transfers. Best for someone with a specific condition who wants intensive, doctor-led classical Ayurveda — and the catalog's most affordable serious Panchakarma.
